taming our tongues (in the proverbs)

A gentle tongue is a tree of life,
but perverseness in it breaks the spirit.
{Proverbs 15:4 esv}
Gracious words are like a honeycomb,
sweetness to the soul and health to the body.

{proverbs 16:24 esv}
Death and life are in the power of the tongue
and those who love it will eat its fruits.
{proverbs 18:21}
Whoever keeps his mouth and his tongue
keeps himself out of trouble.
{Prov. 21:23 esv}

Taming the tongue and the affects on relationships.
It's an re-occuring things for me, I'm doing good then I fall back into my sarcastic humor.
I think this is ok when talking about objects, or myself.
But there is always a possibility of hurting someone when
we bring them into our humor in a "stabbing" way.

"It's the cheapest form of humor" -Matt Chandler

"In sarcasm there is always the victim of the joke, and it's normally
a person... and that person may laugh but you left them discouraged
and uncared for with your words." -David Hasz

Women respond more wounded to this than most men do.
Because women's hearts can be more tender to words, and their emotions
are more on the forefront than men's are.
If someones primary love language in words of affirmation they can respond
even more so hurt than most, because your words always have great weight
with them.

Lord allow me to speak tenderly, sincerely, and in love towards the people
you put in my path. Grant me discernment to think before I speak,
humility to apologize when I'm wrong, and help my word to be sweet
to those who hear them...
