r o a d t r i p s.

This last weekend I drove up to Iowa for a friends wedding in a 3 car caravan.
There is so much to be said about road trips, good and bad.

You normally get annoyed with each other, disagree on music preferences, want to get out and run, and just BE where ever you are going. I was processing so many things, as a woman who loves being around people but enjoys my space and alone time.
When you are in a car with people for such a long time you learn things about them; how they sleep, what they eat on the go, how they respond to agitation, if they are adventurous, can you have really long conversations, and can you sit in the silence and it not be awkward. You also have a lot of time to reflect; on days past, on your own responses, and on what’s to come. It makes you very thankful or very convicted. What you should have done different, and how blessed you are at the same time.

I heard a pastor say once, if you want to know if you can really see yourself with someone for life, go on a long road trip just you two. I thought about that more and realized that’s so true because of all of the things that happen in close quarters, all of the learning, and reflecting. You learn to be together, or you may catch a bus home.
I have some friends that hate road trips, and enjoy the expediency of flying… rightfully so. But I have learned that there are bad road trips and good ones and it come down to who you are doing it with. Fellowship makes the journey better. You can’t land the plane to take pictures at state lines, or stop at a random store to buy something you thought was cool in the window, and on a plane most of the time you don’t pick who you sit next to.

Being on the road make you appreciate the miles,
look forward to what next, enjoy the little moments,
talk things out, jam out,
and dance when you have the opportunity.

“I say make time to dance alone with one hand waving free.
“Some music needs air, roll down your window”

“I mean everybody’s got to take a road trip, at least once in their lives”
